Mayor Tangie Morgan
Tangie was born and raised in Saluda. She is 9th generation from one of the founding families (PACE's) of the town. She attended Saluda School and graduated from East Henderson High School, Cumbie Real Estate, and Meares Auctioneer School. She is the owner of Morgan & Associates Realty & Auction Services,LLC.Also,co-owner with her family of M A PACE GENERAL STORE & SOMEWHERE IN TIME both located on main street.
Tangie is active with and supports many local Veterans groups. Veterans have a special place in her heart. She is affiliated with and has been active in the Henderson County Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Western Carolina MLS, Saluda Christmas Parade, Saluda Arts Festival & Coon Dog Day, Saluda School Reunion Committees, Polk County History Museum .Tangie made history by being the first female to be elected as Mayor of the City of Saluda. She plans to make the community proud of her accomplishments while serving as Mayor. She enjoys crafting, antiquing, cooking, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Commissioner Stan Walker
Stan Walker is a Henderson County, NC native and graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1965. After serving four years in the US Army stationed in West Berlin, Germany, he graduated from Furman University with a B.A. in Political Science. He and his wife, the former Bevie Conner of Saluda have been married for 49 years and have been residents of Saluda since 1980.Stan's working career was in progressive management positions with Clark Equipment, Rockwell, Volvo and Arvin Meritor where he retired as Human Resources Manager. He has coached various youth baseball, basketball and football teams in both Henderson and Polk Counties. He served on the Western North Carolina Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a member and president. He was a Big Brother for ten years. Stan formerly served on the Planning Board/Board of Adjustments for the City of Saluda.
Commissioner Melanie Talbot
Melanie Talbot grew up in Charlotte, NC before moving to Saluda in 1983. She opened Green River BBQ in 1984 and is still the owner. Melanie has one son that grew up in Saluda and went to Polk County schools. He now lives in London, England with his fiancée.Melanie has served on many board including the Polk County School Board, Polk County Community Foundation, Saluda Senior Center, Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce, Saluda Election Board, Saluda Community Library, Polk Couny High School PTO and the first female board member of the Saluda Fire Department.
You will usually see Melanie walking around town. Her hobbies are cooking, reading and traveling.
Commissioner Paul Marion
Paul Marion originally moved to Saluda in 1982 when his parents purchased a part of the historic Saluda Inn. Paul’s mother, Doris Marion, served Saluda for over twenty-four years as their City Clerk. It was during this time that Paul learned what it meant to give back and serve his community. Paul attended Saluda School, East Henderson High School and Western Carolina University. After graduating, his career took him into the engineering and construction industry in Greenville, SC, where he has worked for the past twelve years. Paul married his college sweetheart, Ashley, and they have two children who both attend Saluda school where Ashley is a teacher.
After living in Flat Rock for a short period, the Marion’s moved back to Saluda for good in 2017. Saluda is near and dear to the heart of the Marion family, and Paul’s desire to be involved in local leadership is fueled by that love for this special place.
Commissioner Mark Oxtoby
Mark Oxtoby was born in Coventry, England and grew up in the nearby town of Nuneaton, where most of his family still resides today. He is a graduate of North Warwickshire College of Technology and Art as a production and mechanical engineer. He worked for Clarkson International Tools when he made his initial trip to the US to purchase CNC equipment. It was during that trip he met his future wife Carole Pace in 1988. Mark moved to the States and married Carole at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in February 1990. They settled in Saluda in May of that year. He has one son, Tyler, who is currently at Polk County High School and plays varsity tennis. He is the Operation/Branch manager for Atlas Bolt & Screw Company in Flat Rock with 29 employees that manufactures and distributes fasteners for the metal building industry. He has served as Junior Warden of the Church of the Transfiguration, the Polk County Zoning Board of Adjustment, Saluda Planning Board, and is currently on the board of directors for the Saluda Fire and Rescue Department and President of a local Business Park Association.
